Frequently Asked Questions
Who is required to file an income tax return?
Any individual with gross income above the basic exemption limit (₹2.5L for below 60, ₹3L for 60–80, ₹5L for 80+) must file. Also mandatory if you have foreign assets, want to claim a refund, or carry forward losses.
What is the deadline for filing ITR?
For individuals and salaried employees, the due date is typically 31st July of the assessment year. For businesses requiring audit, it is 31st October. Belated returns can be filed up to 31st December.
What happens if I miss the ITR deadline?
A late filing fee of ₹5,000 (₹1,000 if income is below ₹5L) applies. You also lose the ability to carry forward certain losses, and interest under Section 234A accrues on unpaid tax.
Can I file ITR even if my employer deducted TDS?
Yes — and you should. Filing your ITR is mandatory above the exemption limit regardless of TDS. It also lets you claim a refund if excess TDS was deducted.
How long does it take to get a tax refund?
Refunds are typically processed within 15–45 days of e-verification of your ITR. We track your refund status and follow up with the department if there are delays.
What is the new tax regime vs old tax regime?
The new regime offers lower slab rates but removes most deductions (80C, HRA, etc.). The old regime allows deductions but has higher rates. We analyse both and recommend the one that saves you more tax.
